Survey reveals sellers only ‘consider’ using online agents

The Property Academy piloted a large survey consisting of 5,420 recent home movers and found that over one in five of them considered using an online estate agent to sell their property.

The survey failed to reveal how many sellers actually went on to use online-only agents, but recent research suggests that under 5% of stock is held by onliners.

The Property Academy survey also revealed:

  • Only 6% of respondents were below 30 years of age and a large majority had sold property in the last year.
  • Just over a quarter of those who answered were based in south east England.
  • Over a half of the homes were priced between £125,001 and £400,000.
  • Around 28% invited only one agent to give a valuation on the property for sale, 29% asked two agents and 34% asked three agents. Surprisingly, 45% of respondents did not visit the websites of the agents they invited.
  • 39% of respondents had read one or more reviews of the agents that had been invited.
  • 30% of movers never visited their agent’s office at any stage, before or during the transaction.
  • 80% of respondents said they did not go on to choose the agent with the lowest fee.
